Mildred Bramlette
Mildred Bramlette
Rockmart, GA
89 Years Young

Tell us about your family and your accomplishments.

  • I have 2 sons, 1 daughter.
  • I only have one brother living, there were 7 of us - 5 boys and 2 girls.
  • I'm most proud of being able to take care of my Mother for 10 years before she passed away in 1992.
  • I worked in Rockmart & Cartersville for Goodyear for 25 years. I've lived in Rockmart since 1960, 45 years.
  • I participated in the AARP Senior Center Walking Program last April. I wear the pedometer all the time and walk about 15,000 steps per day. In a year I have walked about 1900 miles. Sometimes I have walked on the Silver Comet Trail, often just around my yard, house and the Senior Center. I even wear it at night because when I get up at night, I add steps.
  • I enjoy gardening and taking care of my flowers. I raise sage, bell peppers & tomatoes in my vegetable garden. I use the sage for making chicken dressing.

Do you visit a senior center?

Daily. Rockmart in Polk County.

How long have you been attending the center?

Since 1993.

What made you start going to the center?

Friends invited me here.

What kinds of activities do you enjoy at the center?

All of it.  We have Bingo almost daily.  Then throughout the week we have exercise, singing, bible reading, and a Fiddlers Band.

How has the center helped you Age Well and Live Well?

Socializing with all the Senior Citizens. I only take 1 prescription medicine.

Do you volunteer at your senior center or at other community organizations?

I serve in the kitchen at the Center and I water all the plants here at the Senior Center. At my church, the Fairview Baptist, I help out with special activities.

What advice would you give to young people today on how to live a good long life?

Go to school and learn. Get an education because you can't get a good job without education. Stay away from dope and drinking!
